Kevon WhitfieldCINCINNATI - Police arrested two teenage pizza robbers early Monday morning after the suspects' plan was quickly foiled.

Police say one of the suspects placed an order with Toppers Pizza in Clifton but forgot to hang-up his cellphone. The suspect began discussing his plan in detail for the attack with nearby friends while delivery driver Brad Lane listened to his conversation.

Toppers delivery manager Robert Saylors described what was heard.

"We're going to get this guy when he gets out of his car," Saylors said. "You guys hang out here. We're going to rush him."

Cincinnati District One Police Capt. Doug Weisman says the caller was clearly overheard planning to punch the driver in the back of the head when he arrived.

Saylors said Toppers quickly called police and a sting operation was put in place. Undercover officers, who were already on duty, dressed up as Toppers drivers and made the delivery.

Police say the suspects grabbed the pizza and ran. Moments later, police arrested 19-year-old Kevon Whitfield and a 14-year-old suspect.

"They had uniform officers very close in the area to come in and stop it right after it happened," Weisman said.

The suspects later confessed to the attempted robbery.

"It was really effective because we were able to make something happen and punish these guys that were trying to take advantage of us," Saylors said.

Saylors stated that it doesn't make much sense to try and rob from his drivers because they never carry more than $20.

The older suspect, Kevon Whitfield was in the process of being evicted from Public Housing in February, and was wanted by Cincinnati Police for an Assault that occurred in October of 2010. He is currently being held on $50,000 bond for Robbery.

Police are still looking for two more suspects that go by the nicknames "Tez" and "Shark." Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers (513) 352-3040.
