Two Children Killed With Shot Gun By Deranged Woman

Yokeia Smith is was arrested w/the murder weapon after two small children were slaughtered.
EAST SAINT LOUIS - 25-year-old Yokeia Smith allegedly shot two very small child to death in East St. Louis and then fled the scene. She was arrested a short time later in downtown Missouri City w/the murder weapon after striking 3 pedestrians.
East St. Louis has one of the highest murder rates in the world surpassing Gary Indiana at 101 murders per 100,000 people in a town that only has 27,000 people living within it's city limits. That's 25 times the national average for murder in the U.S. One in 1,000 people are murdered each year in East St. Louis the 4th largest city in Illinois.
Investigators from the East St. Louis Police Department and Illinois State Police arrived on the scene in the 3000 block of Lincoln Avenue in East St. Louis around 7:00 p.m. Wednesday night. The two children were found dead inside an apartment building. Police said the victims were 3 and 4 year old children.

After the shooting, investigators say the female suspect headed into Downtown St. Louis. The suspect was trying to get away from police when she struck three pedestrians at Market Street and Memorial Drive.
The three people were transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The intial reports stated the woman was wanted for a murder in East St. Louis. Police say the woman had a loaded shot gun with her at the time and peacefully surrendered after the crash. She is in custody in St. Louis.
Police have not said what relationship the woman is to the children or if she even lived in the residents where the children were found.
