An apartment complex near Broad Ripple is the scene of a shooting spree in Indianapolis.

Two people are dead and three others hurt in a shooting at an apartment complex on the northeast side of Indianapolis, police officials said.

Police say five people were found shot: two in the apartment complex's clubhouse; one in the complex office; one on a balcony at an apartment; one in a maintenance building; and one in the parking lot of a Big Lots across the street. The suspected shooter - who is believed to have shot himself - is among those shot, police said.

Just before 7 p.m. Wednesday, police confirmed the shooter - who is believed to have shot himself - had died. Identification of the other person killed and those hurt was not yet available.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Kendale Adams called it a "complex" investigation covering a "big geographical area."

The shooting was initially reported just before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. More than an hour later, IMPD investigators were still on the scene, interviewing witnesses. Local news reports that all three injured shooting victims are listed in stable condition.

On Saturday June 2nd 2012, IMPD identified the shooter as Micheal Anderson, 30, who was a long-term unemployed person at the time of the shooting with no criminal background in Indiana. Michael Anderson shot four people, killing one, before he shot himself in the head. He was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly after.

Officials with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said Thursday they still weren’t sure what prompted Anderson to go on his shooting spree.

“He never showed signs of anything like this,” said neighbor Josh Brown. “There were mutual problems and regular life problems. I never expected him to do anything like this.”
