Convicted Crack Dealer Arrested For Murder

Police Make Arrest In Walnut Hills Homicide

Anton DensonCINCINNATI - Authorities have made an arrest in connection to the December shooting death of a man in Walnut Hills.

On December 14th 2010, police officers were called to the 3000 block of Park Avenue where they found Devon Heard, 28, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

On Wednesday February 9th 2011, members of the Cincinnati Police Department and the Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (SOFAST) arrested Anton Denson aka Anton Ward, 33, for the murder of Heard.

Denson has a long criminal history, beginning in 1997. Since 1997 he has been convicted of Trafficking Crack Cocaine and Possession of Cocaine although Denson has never served more than a few month in prison at a time in the past 14 years as a crack dealer.

These sentences for felony drug dealing are questionable punishments due to Mandatory Minimum Sentencing Guidelines enacted by the federal government in 1986.

For life long crack dealers, like Mr. Denson, the Guidelines state he must do 2 to 5 years when convicted. The problem is that he was never indicted on a federal level due his low or street level status. Even though these felonies, on a local level, could have resulted in much more time in prison. Instead, Deson was given little more than a few months in jail at a time - until the murder of fellow crack dealer and convicted car thief Devon Heard.

Denson currently is behind bars at the Hamilton County Justice Center.

If you have any information regarding this case, please call Crime Stoppers at (513)352-3040.
