Man To Be Sentenced For Beating And Molesting Baby

Baptista was arrested when hospital personnel found broken bones and sexual trauma to a 4-month old baby girl.
PAWTUCKET, R.I. - A 21-year-old Pawtucket man convicted of abusing and sexually molesting a four-month old child is scheduled to be sentenced for his crimes, which came to light in 2009, on Monday May 16th of 2011.
After reviewing horrific physical evidence of physical and sexual abuse, a jury found Emanuel Baptista guilty of child abuse and child molestation. He could face anything from a mandatory 8 years up to Life in prison.
Baptista was arrested in August 2009, after the baby's mother brought the four-month old to Hasbro Children's Hospital. Police said Baptista had told the mother the child had choked on a baby wipe. Doctors who examined the baby said she had 10 broken ribs, fractures in both of her arms, and significant bruising. Doctors said they also found clear evidence of sexual molestation.
Police said Baptista admitted to abusing and molesting the child during questioning. According to anonymous sources the baby was Batista's own infant daughter.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Scott Erickson on behalf of the Office of the Attorney General. The lead detective from the Pawtucket Police Department was Charles “Chip” Devine.

Emanuel Baptista, formerly of Pawtucket, was sentenced to two life sentences plus 20 years for the 2009 molestation of a four month old child in his care.
On each of the two counts of first degree child molestation, Baptista was sentenced to life, with the sentences to run concurrently. Baptista was sentenced to 20 years with 10 years to serve and 10 years suspended with probation for each of the two counts of first degree child abuse, sentences to run concurrently, but consecutive to the molestation sentences.
