Man Accused Of Raping 92-Year-Old Woman

CPD Investigate Rape In An Amber Park Nursing Home In Deer Park

Cincinnati State University nursing student charged with the rape of an elderly woman and denies all responsibility.

DEER PARK, OH, - A nursing home employee was indicted Thursday November 26th 2013 on charges that he raped a helpless 92-year-old mentally ill woman at the group home.

Samuel Onyenweaku, 22, of West Chester, was charged with Rape, Felonious Assault and Patient Abuse from an incident reported on November 24th 2013 at the Amber Park Nursing Home on E. Galbraith Road.

According to the indictment, Onyenweaku worked as a nurse's aide at the home. Shortly before 5 AM, a nurse attempted to enter the elderly woman's room and noticed the door was closed and locked, which is not customary.

The nurse unlocked the door and reportedly found the victim in bed with her nightgown pulled up and not wearing any undergarments. Investigators say the nurse also saw men's clothing on the floor, and Onyenweaku was found hiding in the private bathroom inside of the woman's room.

According to authorities, the nurse immediately called 911 and EMS and Deer Park Police responded to the nursing home to conduct their investigation.

The victim was transported to University of Cincinnati Medical Center for an examination and treatment. She was released from the hospital to the care of Cincinnati Hospice.

Onyenweaku was fired by the nursing home, arrested on November 26th 2013 and has been held in the Hamilton County Justice Center.

The suspect's family insists, although enough evidence was gathered to charge and then indict Onyenweaku, that he was simply "using the bathroom" and that "it's all a big misunderstanding".

If convicted of all charges, Onyenweaku faces the possibility of 20 years in prison.

UPDATE 07/28/2014

Samuel Onyenweaku raped a 92 year old woman at a nursing home to the point where his victim was bleeding.

On the night of the rape, Samuel Onyenweaku's supervisor walked into the woman's room that day to find her naked from the neck down, her gown pushed up, her vagina bleeding. The supervisor also saw Onyenweaku's pants, underwear and shoes at her bed and a naked Onyenweaku locked in the victim's bathroom. His semen was found in the victim's vagina and other parts of her body.

"I believe he selected this particular victim," Assistant Prosecutor Anita Vizedom said, "based on her condition. She wouldn't be able to tell anyone what happened. She wouldn't be able to fight back."

Deer Park Police Chief Michael Schlie was so upset that he came to court Monday to ask the judge to impose the maximum prison sentence of 11 years on Onyenweaku.

"This case undoubtedly is going to stick with me the rest of my career," Schlie said. "Hopefully, the federal government will deport him afterward."

Onyenweaku didn't talk at his sentencing, but told investigators after his conviction, that he masturbated while wearing a latex glove he later used to examine the woman, his explanation for why his body fluids were found inside the woman.

Vizedom also believes Onyenweaku did the same thing to the elderly woman twice before based on the woman's instances of vaginal bleeding, something that only happened when Onyenweaku cared for her.

After the rape, the victim was taken to the hospital but released to hospice where she died weeks later.

In addition to serving the 11 years in prison, Onyenweaku also has to report as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Samuel Onyenweaku also appealed the ruling. The appeal was rejected and the original sentence affirmed.
